Brief introduction to the maxims for the Five Key Virtues:

  • Respect - Treat others the way that you would want to be treated.
  • Courage - Take good risks.
  • Compassion - Work for the good of others.
  • Integrity - Tell the difficult truth.
  • Perseverance - Never give up.

Respect Unit
Maxim for respect: treat others the way that you would want to be treated.

Show respect to people who are different from you:
  • Case: The Sneetches by Dr. Seuss:
  • Respect for difference: treating people the way that you would want to be treated--even when those people are different from you.

Show respect to trusted adults in your life because:
  • They have your best interest in mind. "Best interest" means what's best for you in the long run.
  • They are older and wiser and they know what it takes to succeed in this world.

Show respect to your peers because:
  • They have the right to learn at a school that is emotionally and physically safe.
  • We all share the responsibility to keep this community emotionally and physically safe.
